Pollution - Under construction Air Pollution:  Carbon monoxide, CO2, sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), nitrogen oxides and particulates. Clearly the major source of air pollution on our planet is fossil fuels.  Let's get rid of 99.99% of them!  We'll switch over to a Hydrogen-Oxygen based society and  generate all our energy with renewables: wind, solar, geothermal, etc.  All vehicles (cars, trucks, planes and trains) will be 100% clean: all electric or hybrid H2 - O2.  Not fuel cells: they can't compete with the other clean energy systems, and not simply H2 since burning it in a combustion engine will produce NOx.  Transporting H2 is nearly impossible (so far) so let's follow the Norwegians HyNor system: generate clean electrical power, transmit it as electricity to its destinattion (we need superconductors here), and generate H2 - O2 by electrolysis where it's needed on-site.  Most renewable energy systems (wind, solar, tidal) are intermittant so as we phase out fossil fuel power plants (coal, oil, gas), we'll convert them to standby power systems by filling their empty fuel stroage tanks with H2 - O2.  When needed, burn the gases to make power with 0% pollution! Water Pollution:  Runoff contaminants, leaching, chemical spills, wastewater discharges, eutrophication and littering. The BEST pollution solution is ACCOUNTABILITY!   If anyone (an individual, a CEO, a plant manager, a company or an industry) soils our planet, they pay to clean it up.  No hiding.  No bankruptcy protection.  No bribes or political payoffs.  The EPA and DOJ will track down the person or persons responsible and make them pay.  With their houses, their cars, their savings and company assets.  Gone.  I'm absolutely sure the next polluter will be more careful!  Unfortunately we have a long history of $ 100 in damage and $ 0.10 in penalties (e.g. Exxon Valdez).  And the perps walk while their corrupt politicians get re-elected.  Soil Contamination:   Chemical spills and underground leakage: hydrocarbons, heavy metals, MTBE, herbicides, pesticides and chlorinated hydrocarbons. See accountability above. Radioactive Contamination:   Waste from atomic physics, nuclear power, nuclear weapons , manufacture and deployment. Encapsulate it and dump it in the deep ocean trenches and tectonic subduction zones.
